About Us
NCSFR (The Northwest Center for Small Fruits Research) is a USDA – ARS research-led consortium funded by the USDA.
It is a Pacific Northwest partnership of researchers and stakeholders in Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. The organization was established to increase the sustainability and economic productivity of berry, grape, and wine industries in the Pacific Northwest of the United States of America.
Our History
The NCSFR was established in 1992, and its administrative headquarters are located in Corvallis, Oregon with major research programs at Oregon State University, Washington State University, University of Idaho and USDA-ARS.
Our Mission
The mission of the Northwest Center for Small Fruits Research is to enhance the sustainability and profitability of the berry, grape and wine industries through research and dissemination of information.
We Specialize in Small Fruits & Grapes
NCSFR provides a forum for Northwest small fruits producers, processors and wineries to address regional problems, set research funding priorities, and direct limited federal dollars to leverage state-funded programs to find real solutions for pressing small fruit agricultural problems.

Stakeholder Partnership
The Northwest Center for Small Fruits Research partners with industry in the Pacific Northwest region to make the most efficient use of areas of expertise, research dollars, and direct stakeholder input to collaborate on research projects
NBF Partnership
The Northwest Berry Foundation (NBF) has signed an agreement with the USDA’s Northwest Center for Small Fruits Research (NCSFR) to manage communications and outreach efforts for them.
Support & Structure
Coordinating Committee
Oversees the general operations, strategic planning, and contracted activities of the Northwest Berry foundation. The chairs of this volunteer committee are elected annually at the NCSFR annual meeting.
Stakeholder Council
A group of stakeholders from the industry and researcher community that are involved in updating research priorities annually. Each commodity group has one chair from research and the other from industry.
Liaison Committee
The SFIC (Small Fruits Industry Consortium) Liaison Committee travels to DC annually to meet with PNW Congressional delegates from USDA-ARS (USDA-Agricultural Research Service) to discuss the Center’s research program and the future research funding needs of the small fruits industry.
