After You Receive Funding
Receiving NCSFR funding is the beginning of a structured research and communication process. As an awardee, your work contributes not only to research outcomes, but to the broader system that connects research with industry across the Pacific Northwest.
From Funding to Impact
By participating in reporting and communication, awardees ensure that research does not remain in isolation, but contributes to real-world outcomes across the region.
What We Ask of Awardees
NCSFR-funded projects are expected to engage in three core responsibilities throughout the research cycle.
Present at the Annual Conference
Awardees present their research findings at the NCSFR Annual Conference, sharing results directly with growers, industry stakeholders, and fellow researchers.
Submit Progress & Final Reports
Projects must provide progress updates and final reports as part of the funding cycle. These reports help ensure transparency, track outcomes, and support ongoing research communication.
Contribute to Research Communication
Awardees work with NCSFR to translate findings into accessible formats — fact sheets, project summaries, and conference presentations — ensuring research reaches the people who can apply it in the field.
First-Time Awardees
First-time awardees are expected to present a pictorial summary at the NCSFR Annual Conference and complete a progress report in March following the conference.
Pictorial Summary Requirement
A pictorial summary is a poster that uses visuals such as photos to illustrate the overall progression of your research project. It should clearly communicate your research goals — results are not required at this stage.
Poster Guidelines
- Recommended size: 24″ (width) × 36″ (height)
- Printed on heavy card stock or foam board
Your Summary Should Include
- Labelled photos showing project activities or research site
- A clear statement of your research goals and approach
- Contact information for the Principal Investigator
Progress Report Requirement
First-time awardees are required to complete a progress report in March following the Annual Conference. Our administration team will provide submission instructions and alert you of the due date closer to the time.
Reports are submitted through ARIEL — the platform where your original proposal was managed.
Continuing Funded Awardees
Continuing funded awardees are expected to present a poster at the Annual Conference and submit a project abstract in October each year until the completion of their project.
Poster Presentation Requirement
Continuing funded awardees present a poster at the Annual Conference. This applies if your multi-year project is in year 1 of 2, year 1 of 3, or year 2 of 3 of the funding process.
Your Poster Should Include
- A brief overview of the project and research goals, including results to date
- List of collaborators and contact information
- Labelled project-associated pictures, tables, and/or graphs
Project Abstract Requirement
In addition to the poster presentation, continuing funded projects are required to complete a project abstract at the end of every October until the completion of their project.
Our administration team will alert you of your submission closer to the due date. Abstracts are submitted through ARIEL.
Progress Report Requirement
Continuing projects are required to complete a progress report in March following the Annual Conference. Our administration team will provide submission details and timelines.
Managing Your Project
All proposal submissions, reporting, and project activity are managed through ARIEL — A Research Collaboration Platform. Use ARIEL to submit progress and final reports, manage project documentation, and access funding-related materials.
